If you’re reading this, then you’re probably planning a fancy meal out in Bristol! Perhaps you’d like to impress a dinner date, it’s your anniversary with your loved one, or you simply just want to celebrate a special occasion with friends or family.
What is a tasting menu?
A tasting menu is usually between 6-8 courses (sometimes A LOT more!) and is mostly offered at a fine-dining restaurant. It is designed to showcase the restaurant’s finest and most intricate dishes in tapas style and most importantly, give you that ‘je ne sais quoi’ experience! If done well, you would be fully satisfied at the end of the meal…without needing to grab an extra chippie on the way home (… done that before!).
Here’s our top 5 independent restaurants in Bristol that offer the best tasting menus and experience.
1. Paco Tapas – 10-Course Tasting Menu
Their a la carte menu is quite diverse (see below) and with tapas, you always have the difficulty of wanting to choose almost everything on the menu! They haven’t uploaded their tasting menu on their website, however, it is a 10-course tasting menu and it includes almost all the dishes you want to try on their menu – which is pretty perfect at £60pp!
2. Adelina Yard – 5 or 8-Course Tasting Menu
As well as a great a la carte menu, they definitely are also famous for their delicious tasting menus! You can choose between a 5-course (£47pp) or 8-course (£62pp) tasting menus available on Wednesday to Saturday lunch time, and they also have an amazing 12-course tasting menu available on Friday & Saturday evening at only £66pp. All are superb value!

Their a la carte menu features distinctive, adventurous and well-presented dishes partnered with a sprinkling of familiar Indian items, all exceedingly well-prepared and highly flavoursome. However, if you’re looking to treat yourself, then look no further than their 8-course Indian tasting menu at £60pp.
4. Bulrush – 10-Course Tasting Menu
Bulrush is a Michelin Star restaurant based in Cotham owned by Chef George Livesey. They’re not your normal fine-dining restaurant – their open their restaurant with limited times during the week and they only have one menu – their tasting menu.

5. Pony & Trap – Classic Chef’s Tasting Menu, Fish & Shellfish Tasting Menu & Vegetable Tasting Menu
Pony & Trap is a Michelin-starred restaurant based in Chew Magna and North Street (NEW – they’re opening in Spring 2021), run by top chef, Josh Egglton! They focus all their energy in sourcing their ingredients ethically and locally; whether it’s from their own vegetable garden, the South West coast, or local farms & woodlands!
They originally started with just one tasting menu, their classic chef’s menu! However, they realised they wanted to cater to different dietary requirements and also to showcase their locally caught fish and vegetables from their flourishing garden! So, they have now expanded to having 3 tasting menu options, priced at around £70pp.
